"The leaders started putting information together and said, 'Let's create stuff so people know about the different commodity groups that we have, and let the children know where different products come from,'" Simpson recounted.The result is a captivating experience that transports visitors to the heart of the agricultural world. Stations within Farmertown offer a diverse array of hands-on activities, from "shaving" a sheep with shaving cream to transforming corn into flour and feeding a pig the proper diet. Each station is accompanied by informative signage that delves into the various products derived from the featured animal or crop.

The driving force behind Farmertown is the belief that by engaging children in these interactive experiences, they will develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the origins of the food they consume and the materials they use. Simpson and the teen leaders have meticulously designed each station to ensure that the learning process is both memorable and impactful."As they grow up, they'll understand and say, 'Oh, I remember at the county fair, I was able to shave a sheep so that's where my clothes come from,'" Simpson explained, highlighting the lasting impact these hands-on experiences can have on young minds.

The inaugural year of Farmertown has been a resounding success, surpassing the expectations of the organizers. Morgan Sloan, a 4-H member and one of the event's key organizers, expressed her surprise at the overwhelming turnout. "We're surprised about the turnout, to be honest with you," Sloan said. "We've loved it. We've worked really, really hard for it, and I think our outcome was fantastic."Sloan's enthusiasm is palpable as she recounts the joy of teaching children about the subjects she is so passionate about. "The kids are having a good time," she said. "All of the great little smiles that are on their faces. It's worth everything."
