Connecting the Community: Bert Nash Center's Interactive Resource Fair

The Bert Nash Center is gearing up for its third annual Community Resource Fair, and this year's event promises to be the most engaging and interactive yet. Scheduled for September 12th, the fair aims to connect community members with a wide range of social services and resources, all while offering a unique and immersive experience.

Empowering the Community Through Hands-On Experiences

Exploring Indigenous Cuisine and Healthy Eating

The Resource Fair will feature a special guest, Jason the Native Chef, who will not only be serving complimentary food but also educating attendees about the importance of healthy eating and its connection to Indigenous culture and wellness. By blending culinary delights with educational insights, the event aims to inspire attendees to adopt more nutritious habits and gain a deeper appreciation for the rich traditions that shape our community.

Discovering Adaptive Music Technology

Another highlight of the Resource Fair is the presence of AUMI-KU, an adaptive music interface that allows individuals with limited mobility to engage in the art of music-making. Attendees will have the opportunity to witness live demonstrations of this innovative technology, gaining a newfound understanding of how technology can empower and enrich the lives of those with diverse abilities.

Learning Lifesaving Skills

In recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the Resource Fair will feature a critical component: demonstrations on the use of Narcan, the nasal spray that can be used to treat narcotic overdoses in emergency situations. Led by Dr. Nana Dadson, the Bert Nash Center's chief medical officer, these demonstrations aim to equip attendees with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in the face of a crisis, potentially saving lives.

Connecting with Community Partners

The Bert Nash Center's Community Resource Fair will bring together an impressive array of 35 partner agencies, each dedicated to addressing a wide range of social services and community needs. This collaborative effort not only allows these organizations to connect with one another but also provides a valuable opportunity for the public to learn about the resources available and how to access the support they need.

Fostering Meaningful Connections

At the heart of the Resource Fair lies a deeper purpose: to facilitate meaningful connections within the community. As Sarah Hoadley, the Bert Nash Center's development director, explains, "The goal is not only to acquaint everyone from these different partner agencies with each other, but to invite the community at large to come, connect, learn where the resources are, and understand how to access support."

Expanding Community Outreach with Generous Sponsors

The Bert Nash Center's Community Resource Fair is made possible through the generous support of two sponsors: Mid American Credit Union and SSC CPAs + Advisors. Their contributions have allowed the event to expand its offerings and reach even more members of the community.

A Transformative Experience for the Community

The Bert Nash Center's Community Resource Fair is poised to be a transformative experience for the Lawrence community. By blending interactive demonstrations, educational opportunities, and a wealth of community resources, the event aims to empower attendees, foster connections, and inspire positive change. As the community gathers on September 12th, the Bert Nash Center's vision of a more engaged and informed populace will come to life, paving the way for a stronger, more resilient Lawrence.
